Archibald Charles Hill was born at Bath, Somerset on 20 August 1900 and enlisted with the Royal Navy as Boy Class II on 1 February 1916. Posted to Penelope on 16 September 1916 he reached his majority with this warship on 20 August 1918. Hill went ashore on 1 April 1919 and served there for the rest of his career, being promoted Leading Stoker on 15 May 1919. His medals survive in VF
