This is a lovely example of a 2nd Pattern Brown Bess Bayonet which is well-marked on the socket H / 37 indicating issue to Company H of the 37th Regiment of Foot

It even still has the original cocking handle

complete with its brass puppy paw hooks all intact

any play in the construction - though it may affect pointof- strike - would not compromise safety

Overall it also retains much more of the gilding on the brass than we are used to seeing
