The rear has two muzzle rings which by using clamping screws to secure the practice bayonet to the front of the rifle

but this version does not have these

chronic issues with the cap falling off the nipple sealed their fate

This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. It is an original Austrian Lorenz Style military rifle musket, imported in the 1860's for the upcoming Civil War, probably by the Confederate States.
