Civil War surgeon's dissection kit, almost certainly also used in wartime to assist taking care of minor wounds encountered on the battlefield. Consisting of scalpels, hooks and probes, it has a compartment under the lid for additional tools, showing the maker as: HORATIO G. KERN, NO. 293 MARKET STREET, PHILADELPHIA. On either side of this written in ink is the name of the owner and a
